The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. John J. Hughes was trained as a civil engineer and came to Spokane Falls in 1888. He worked with E. J. Roberts and John F. Stevens on the survey of the Spokane Falls & Northern Railroad. He was also employed in the survey and construction of the Great Northern Railway’s transcontinental route and several branch lines.
